Oceanic and atmospheric circulation plays a vital role in regulating the regional climate and the spatial distribution of natural ecosystems. Therefore, it is important to understand how it responds to climate change. In this talk, I will present independent lines of evidence from satellite observations, paleo-proxies and model simulations to show that the large-scale oceanic and atmospheric circulation could shift towards higher latitude under warmer climate. I will also provide a possible dynamical mechanism to explain why it moves.
