Corporate Engagement with Startups: A Systematic Literature Review and Future Research Agenda

Summary
Corporate engagement with startups has become an increasingly common practice among firms from various industries around the world. However, research on this complex phenomenon, remains relatively limited, and there exists a lack of common understanding among relevant research fields. With the aim of creating a more comprehensive understanding of corporate engagement with startups, we conduct a systematic literature review that outlines the current state of research and consolidates the literature at the intersection of corporate venturing, open-innovation and entrepreneurial ecosystems. Building on prior research, we propose a conceptual framework which extends existing theoretical models by building on both corporate venturing and open-innovation literature while integrating the entrepreneurial ecosystem dimension. In this context, our review provides further clarity on corporate engagement with startups, offering promising avenues for future research.
