Exploring the Impact of Gestural Interaction Technologies on the Experience: A Marketing and HCI Perspective

It is now essential for businesses to provide the best experience to their customers to ensure their competitiveness. In this goal, technologies are constantly evolving to provide more and more immersive, rich and complete experiences. Some of these technologies originally come from the world of video games and are known for their immersive capacity. Many of them have gone beyond their initial framework to be now used in the context of e-commerce, or even in the future metaverse. One of these technologies is the gestural interaction. It consists of relying on any meaningful movement by any human body to control a computer-based information system. However, there is currently a lack of subjective and affective measures to evaluate the user experience (UX) of gestural interaction technologies. Furthermore, understanding the impact of gestural interaction on the consumer experience would enable marketers to integrate this type of technology efficiently and highlight the important aspects to consider when developing such interfaces. The thesis has therefore three main objectives. The first is to understand deeply the notion of experience and its associated concepts coming from different literatures. The second is to explore the use of gesture interaction technologies in a consumption context in order to assess its effect on the experience. Lastly, we aim at exploring and defining a model and a method to assess the overall quality of experience when using gestural interaction technologies.
