The NISQ (Noisy Intermediate-Scale Quantum) era refers to the current phase in quantum computing characterized by quantum processors with a limited number of qubits that are susceptible to noise and errors. While these devices are not yet fully fault-tolerant, they hold promise for solving specific problems that are intractable for classical computers.

In this seminar, we will explore mutation analysis, a well-established technique in classical software engineering for assessing the quality of test suites, in the context of NISQ programs. We will discuss the specific challenges and necessary modifications for adapting this technique to quantum software and we will highlight how established SE practices must evolve to meet the unique requirements of quantum computing in the NISQ era.
