Research Network

ires |

In its early days, IRES began primarily as a forecasting institute. However, it quickly recognized that a deep and nuanced understanding of the European economy was essential to its mission and this could anly be achieved through the creation of a network of partners. In 1957, IRES joined forces with the Deutsches Institut für Wirtschaftsforschung (DIW, Berlin) and the Institut national de la statistique et des études économiques (INSEE, Paris) to establish the Association of European Economic Research Institutes (AIECE) - Association d'instituts européens de conjoncture économique.

Today, AIECE brings together around 40 member institutes and observers from 19 countries and 5 international organizations. This network fosters a rich exchange of knowledge and perspectives across Europe and beyond.

Twice a year, AIECE members convene to discuss the current and future state of the European and global economy. These meetings focus on economic policy, structural challenges, and long-term trends. At the heart of these discussions is the General Report, a comprehensive document compiling forecasts and analyses from member institutes. Prepared in advance through a coordinated survey, the General Report serves as a shared foundation for dialogue, collaboration, and deeper understanding of economic developments across Europe.
