From March 20 to 22, Prof. Amélie Jacquemin was at the Université Paris Cité, member of the Circle U. alliance, for the Female Founders Retreat. The idea was to bring together students, professors and practitioners of the alliance around a common project: developing a network of women entrepreneurs.

It was also an opportunity for Amélie to present the data from the Global Entrepreneurship Monitor that provides an accurate picture of female entrepreneurship in the world and the inherent challenges. For instance, the latest global report highlights that on average women create fewer businesses than men, create smaller ones, expand less internationally and raise less money. In Europe, women are more educated than men but perceive themselves as less competent to start a business, which is symptomatic of cultural and societal obstacles (lack of self-confidence, imposter syndrome, etc.).

Amélie Jacquemin also talked about her research in mentoring entrepreneurs, pointing out that gender stereotypes still exist when an entrepreneur is accompanied by a female mentor.

This retreat was also an opportunity for Amélie Jacquemin to work with the Women in Science Group, a group formed a year ago within the Circle U Alliance.
