Message to voters - Françoise Smets

Dear all,

It has been a pleasure to meet so many of you over the last few weeks. Our discussions have further strengthened my motivation for serving you in order to (once again) find meaning in our missions and prioritise every individual’s development. Increasing student precarity, support for learning and specific needs, excessive individual and team workloads, inclusion, respect for and recognition of our diversity, and our operating methods will therefore be priority issues. My second priority will be to fully assume our social responsibility, in particular by being committed players in the face of environmental and social transition challenges. To pursue these priorities, new resources will be required. We have them. The time has come to invest in our future.

Listening to and maintaining close contact with you will continue if I am elected. I want governance to be more participatory, in which debate improves decision-making and moves the university forward. We need more trust, transparency and agility, and less control. Among other things, this means being creative, moving away from one-size-fits-all and zero-risk solutions. I will be working with a team that represents all points of view, one that is caring but determined to get things moving and to resolve complex issues within an acceptable timeframe.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank Geneviève and Alain for making this democratic debate possible, and I salute the mutual respect we have shown one another during the campaign.

For my part, I propose that we come together around a shared vision and shared objectives to build a university that reflects who we are and brings us together.

The time has come for you to make your choice. This is a precious opportunity – seize it!

I look forward to seeing you soon.

Françoise Smets
