Other initiatives and partnerships

UCLouvain is actively committed to the inclusion and support of refugee students and academics in exile. Through a variety of partnerships and initiatives, our university helps to provide educational, professional and social opportunities, thus promoting sustainable and enriching integration. On this page, you can find out more about our concrete actions, our local and international collaborations, and the resources available to help these groups on their journey.

EU-Passworld (EUPW) is a humanitarian corridor for study purposes. This project provides secure access to European higher education for exiled people residing in low- or middle-income host countries. Successful students travel thanks to a humanitarian visa for study purposes, valid for the duration of their studies and for the year following graduation.

The academic year 2024-2025, UCLouvain is pleased to welcome four Congolese students who previously took refuge in Uganda as part of this project. These four students are following a master’s degree within the Faculty of Economic, Social, Political Sciences and Communication (ESPO). “Our faculty is delighted to welcome these four students”, states Julie Hérion, administrative director of the faculty. “This project fully aligns with our values of inclusion, diversity, societal commitment and the fight against inequalities. Our programmes are also well-suited to the audience we welcome, with a pedagogy focused on adults returning to study or support for students from the South.”

The call for applications is managed solely by the home HCR. UCLouvain does not accept any applications via any other channel.

EU-Passworld (EUPW) is a project funded by the European Asylum, Migration and Integration fund. This project is established in collaboration with UNHCT, Fedasil and Caritas International.

UCLouvain is a member of the Global University Academy programme. This partnership brings together around fifteen institutions from Europe, North America, and Africa. Its objective is to develop a joint undergraduate programme to be delivered in various refugee camps.

UCLouvain has been a member of Scholars at Risk since 2017. This network offers threatened academics in their country the opportunity to hold temporary positions in another country until conditions allow for their safe return. Scholars at Risk also organises seminars, training sessions, and an annual international conference.

UCLouvain also offers online or in-person training programmes to help you understand human mobility and asylum laws, enabling you to analyse migration phenomena more critically and with greater nuance:

MOOC Intersecting Perspectives on Migration
MOOC Asylum and Refugee Law
University Certificate in Refugee and Migration Law
